Scheme of Examiantion – Continuous and Comprehensive
Examinations are an integral part of the educational process. Evaluation is continuous
and reveals the strengths and weaknesses of the learners frequently so that learners
have better opportunity to understand and improve themselves. Our examination system and
promotion rules are consistent with the concept of evaluation developed by the National
Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) and the policy envisaged by the
Central Board of Secondary Education. The details about the system are as follows :
The Programme of Evaluation in Various Curricular Areas is Under
- Objective-based, aiming at the specific objective of the scheme of studies.
- Comprehensive, providing for a coverage of all the objectives.
- Continuous, ensuring that there is no loss of time in getting the feed back about the
progress of students; and
- Dynamic, being the integrate with teaching.
EVALUATION IN Primary Classes
In conformity with the new evaluation scheme suggested by the CBSE, the assessment of the
students is continuous and comprehensive. This evaluation scheme takes care of the assessment of
the all round development of the child’s personality. It includes assessment in SCHOLASTIC AS
WELL AS CO-SCHOLASTIC AREAS of the pupil’s growth. Scholastic aspect includes curricular areas
or subject specific areas whereas co-scholastic aspect includes life skills, co-curricular,
attitude and values. To evaluate the scholastic areas:
- Three cycles of weekly tests are conducted for classes I to V.
- The absolute marks are translated into grades in the academic assessment.
- Equal emphasis is laid on acquisition of life skills, attitude and values, interests and
achievement in co-curricular activities, including sports and games.
- These are also continuously evaluated through activities, in which students are encouraged
to participate.
Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation for Classes VI – VIII
The academic year is divided into two terms – April to September and October to March. The
assessment will be done in scholastic as well as co-scholastic aspects.
- Each term will have two formative and one summative assessment.
- Assessment will be indicated in grades:
- The grading scale for scholastic areas is a 9-point grading scale.
- Co-scholastic areas will be assessed on a 5-point grading scale.
The weightage given to various tests/examinations in each subject for promotion to the next
class will be as follows:
Formative Assessments (FA) = FA1+FA2+FA3+FA4 = 40%
Summative Assessments (SA) = SA1 + SA2 = 60%
Scholastic aspects will include subject specific areas whereas co-scholastic aspects will
include life skills, co-curricular activities, attitudes and values towards teachers, school
mates, school programmes etc. Active participation in various school programmes, competitions
will be recorded and subsequently graded.
CCE (Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation) for Classes IX and X
The year will be divided into two terms – April to September and October to March. The
assessment will be done in scholastic and co-scholastic aspects. Scholastic aspects will include
subject specific area whereas co-scholastic aspects will include life skills, co-curricular
activities, attitudes and values. Each term will comprise of two kinds of evaluation:
- Formative Assessment (FA) – This will comprise of the Unit Tests and the activities such as
projects, practicals, assignments, symposiums, debates etc.
- Summative Assessment (SA) – These are the term end examinations.
There will be two cycles of unit tests in each term. The weightage given to the various tests
and examinations will be as follows: The evaluation will be represented in the form of grades on
a nine point scale.
Certificate of School Based Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation
All the students will be issued the Certificate by the CBSE at the end of Class X. The CCE
Certificate will consist of the Health Status, Academic Performance, Personal & Social
Qualities, Attitudes & Values, participation in Co-curricular and Outdoor Activities and
Attendance of the child. The certificate will bear the grading based on the evaluation of the
student during his/her stay in the school in Classes IX and X.
